Lothar Baumgarten (1944-2018) was a German artist.

Baumgarten studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Karlsruhe in 1968 and at the Düsseldorf Art Academy from 1961 to 1971 - including a year as a student of Joseph Beuys, whose anthroposophical ideas also influenced his work.
